Executive Speech Coaching with a Corporate Speech Coach

One-on-one personal sessions

Private executive speech coaching sessions will be uniquely tailored to the client's needs and goals, and may include:

  • Identifying a purpose for every presentation
  • Organizing material so it is easy to follow
  • Identifying and working on vocal problems
  • Improving eye contact
  • Loosening up; adding energy and personality to increase impact
  • Getting the audience's attention and keeping it
  • Handling notes and props
  • Keeping interest high
  • Adding expressive gestures; strengthening body language
  • Learning the do's and don'ts of using visual aids such as PowerPoint
  • Appearance
  • Discovering personal habits and distractions that may be getting in the way

The process begins with a conversation between a corporate speech coach, Bill Wheless or Sherry Wyatt, and the client to discuss areas to be addressed and to determine goals. The client may be asked to return a pre-assessment to help us target our executive speech coaching session effectively.

A date and location (our clients provide the training space) are set, most often for 1/2 day (up to 3 hours) to a full day (up to 6 hours).

The client will come to the executive speech coaching session prepared to present a presentation to be critiqued. It can be a presentation actually coming up, one that has been done in the past, or one that is representative of the kind of presentation he or she is called upon to give in the course of their responsibilities. To be most valuable, it should be as "real life" as possible. Sometimes, clients will bring a video-tape or DVD of a past presentation, and the client and corporate speech coach will view that together, discussing areas to be addressed. It is important, however, that the client have an opportunity to practice what is learned. As he does this, he may be recorded so he can observe how he is coming across and what the corporate speech coach is pointing out.

The client takes from the executive speech coaching session some specific ideas that will help him or her improve their communication skills, along with an invitation to call us whenever they have a question or encounter a communication issue they would like to discuss.

For some clients, one session is all that is necessary to put them on a path of continuous improvement. Others request our coaching anytime they have a high-stakes presentation to deliver.

"I feel that I am working with a true professional and I value your coaching. I wish that we had started sooner."
